Magnified insects
is an online activity developed as a part of a client-based university module. the interaction was created for the Cumberland history museum in Portsmouth. We had to come up with an implementation for the allocated assignment as a three-person team.
Project outcomes
The project outcome needed to be accessible to families and children, with a focus on allowing kids to get up close and personal with some of the insects in their collection. Five insects were to be chosen to be examined under a microscope at two different magnifications.
My role
I was in charge of the project's design and visuals. This included creating the primary backdrop images, insect illustrations, and UI element design. Each design and element was thoroughly researched and considered before being implemented. I strived to keep the design and elements as minimal as possible so that the kids could easily focus on them. Following the completion of the artefact, I received positive feedback from the client, who was delighted with the graphics made.
The pop-up window and side navigation were meticulously developed to match the museum's website design. So that everything is complete, I followed the pattern that can be observed on the museum's website background. Images of the building and insects obtained by a teammate were used to create the graphics. Ui elements were also created to compliment and match the overall activity design.
accessibility
When creating the activity, accessibility was a major consideration. I wanted the images to be accessible to everyone when I was creating them. To accomplish this, I tested the illustrations to see how they would appear to someone who is colourblind. I tested with three different types of colour blindness.
